Saturday was race 3 of the season and the first Laser Championship
race. There were 12 starters and only 2 Lasers - Annette & me -
well at least that means a great start for our championship hunt!
The wind was looking pretty light but did fill in a little for the
start, Peter and Cathy on NoMad were soon out in front with David on
board Rhapsody and Jim in Buckets not far behind, Tim was showing some
real form keeping Nitrogen in front of Bondi Tram with Adam on board.
Annette and I were having a close race early - half a lap in I thought
I was clear of her - but she took a better line to the bottom mark and
after that I was just chasing her around the lake! Behind us Max kept
I'll Be Blowed ahead of the pacer pack, Ian was having a really good
day well out in front of Peter & Mary with Darren and Roelof
bringing up the rear of the fleet.
The wind was shifting around a bit and it looked like I might get past
Annette at one stage but no sooner would I think that and I'd hit a
hole and she was 100 meters ahead again! I even tried going round the
island on the last 2 laps - but it wasn't enough with her getting to
the bottom mark in front. Tim had also managed to hold Adam off until
the final half lap.
So for the first time this season the race wasn't shortened - Russell
had called 4 laps for NS14s/Lasers and 3 for the rest, first home was
Max doing his 3 laps just ahead of Peter & Cathy finishing their 4
laps, David finished just over 2 minutes later with Ian's pacer
finishing 3 laps less then a minute later. Jim was a further minute
behind and comfortablely in front of the other 4 lap boats, Adam was
the first of these with Tim just 11 seconds later then Annette brought
Set To Stun in just 20 seconds behind and I got Berserker across the
line a little over a minute later again.
This left the final 2 pacers and Roelof to finish, Peter & Mary
got to the line a scant 16 seconds before Darren and Roelof was left
to ponder how to get his new boat Amelia Sunday moving better as he
came in several minutes behind.
So in the final washup Ian took out the handicap result for the day,
Jim took out the yardstick result and Annette has taken the Laser
points.
Full results for the weekend are

Saturday was another great day on the water with sunny skies and a
decent breeze - though it was swirling around a lot which challenged
everyone! 16 boats started and it was Peter and Cathy first to the top
mark and all seemed like a repeat of week 1 when they sailed away from
everyone. However during the next couple of laps there was a lot of
pressure on them from Russell, David & Jim. In the Laser fleet Max
was having a poor start being 4th after 1 lap before getting to the lead
at the end of 2 laps. Cookie started well but faded a little later in
the race, Annette was the surprise keeping the radial rigged Set To Stun
humming along just behind Cookie.
The next group of boats were Brett & Cassie in the Pacer along with
the open boats of Max and Rod, and then the other pacers strung out
behind them.
The shortened course was called at around the 75 minute mark which did
mean some classes being split and completing different numbers of laps.
So first across the line with 3 laps completed was Peter Gardiner in the
pacer with Max Clinch finishing 4 laps just 6 seconds behind. Adam
brought Bondi Tram in a couple of minutes later with Cookie and Annette
finishing a round a minute later again. Then we had a dramatic finish of
pacers, Peter & Mary had the lead on Ian but failed to pass through
the finish gate - by the time they returned for the legal finish Ian had
crossed! Dave on Bumble Bee was next home 2 minutes later.
This left the lead boats to finish their 5th lap and see if they could
catch those left on 4 laps, Brett & Cassie managed to finish a
minute ahead of Peter & Cathy on NoMad with David getting Rhapsody
within 10 seconds. Jim got Buckets home just 30 seconds later and 25
seconds ahead of Russell. Max on I'll be Blowed just managed to miss
being lapped by Jim but Rod's Jolly Roger was caught just before the
line! So in the end we had Peter & Mary take out the handicap result
for the day - and last weeks handicap winners were this weeks cellar
dwellers! Jim took the yardstick result and open class. Brett &
Cassie took the pacer class.
Due to a minor admin issue - the apprentice scribe inputting some
incorrect figures - the results announced on Saturday were a little off!
Please check the attached
results to see how you went.
Hope to see you all on the water.
Cheers

Well the season has started and what a way to blow the cobwebs out!
We had a great turnout of 18 boats and sunshine as well... then the
wind turned up as well to make it a real test!
The course was a real mixed bag with some wild gusts up the middle and
a millpond around the Cabramatta Beach marks, I ended up washing the
sail more then once and totally turtling it once - luckily I was in
good company with plenty of others having a swim as well!
Out front Peter Spicer & Cathy kept their boat upright and moving
well enough to take the trifecta of scratch, yardstick and handicap
wins.
Attached are results of race 1 - which was also NS14 championship race
1.
This Saturday we have race 2, Open and Pacer Championship race 1,
start time is 2pm. I've got start duties with Justin Wright as
assistant.
Hope to see you all on the water.
Cheers
